Jail, not hospital for elderly killer

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A judge has ordered an ailing, elderly man to prison -- not hospital care -- after a jury convicted him of a pair of shooting deaths 17 years ago.

Edgar Tiedemann is ill, frail and confined to a wheelchair, but 3rd District Judge Judith Atherton says his crimes were among the worst she's seen while on the bench. Atherton says prison is the only place Tiedemann should be.

In February, a jury convicted found the 61-year-old guilty of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder for the 1991 West Valley City shootings that left Susan Sessions and Charles Timberman dead.
