Group gathered to help veterans suffering emotionally

(KSL News) It's a sobering fact that a number of American military veterans kill themselves each week. Groups to help veterans and their families gathered in Salt Lake this evening to raise awareness of what they can do to help.

The event called "Now Is The Time" featured a film about Utah vets and a panel discussion about the troubles they have. Organizers say many of the wounds suffered by soldiers are unseen, as in emotional damage.

Anthony Gibson, founder of Americans Supporting Veterans, said, "The importance is that they survived the battlefield, they don't have to die on the soil here in America, and we are there for them and we know that our communities are there for them."

The unique thing about the Americans Supporting Veterans group is that it puts veterans having problems together with other veterans who have had the same problems and have been able to get through them.
