Granite district raises price of school lunch

The Granite School District is raising the price for school lunches and breakfasts.

The cost of giving children the energy they need to play and think is going up.

"The price of the breakfast will now go up to 85 cents. There are other districts that are charging as much as $1.10," said Granite spokesperson Randy Riplinger.

He says lunch will now cost $1.60 at junior high and $1.70 at high schools.

"We have been feeling the pressure from increased fuel prices and food prices just like every other school district is," he said.

He says this is the first hike in lunch and breakfast prices in five years. What about lunch down the road? He says it depends on the economy.
