Former neighbors hold fond memories of Pres. Hinckley

Mary Richards reportingPeople who lived near President Hinckley for decades in the Millcreek area remember him as a kind, gentle man.

Tall trees surround President Hinckley's boyhood home and the home where he raised his family.

"It's been a pleasure to have him around," neighbor Max Barney said.

Barney has lived here for more than 40 years. He's even worked on President Hinckley's home.

"He had an old bench swing on the old farmhouse, and when I did the last remodel I had to be careful not to disturb that, and so forth," he said.

President Hinckley moved away years ago to be closer to his office, but members of his family still live here, and neighbors say he would often come back for weddings, funerals, and for church. The building would be packed to hear him.
