Domestic-violence-related deaths declining

(KSL News) Utah's improving when it comes the number of domestic-violence-related deaths.

The Utah Domestic Violence Council released a report today that found domestic-violence-related deaths went down last year to 18.

The council says in 2006, Utah had 28 deaths, and in 2005 it had 33.

The numbers are encouraging, but officials say domestic violence is still a problem. "We like the trend. We like the way it's going. Unfortunately, I'm not sure we can say the same for domestic violence in general," said Mark Nash, committee chair for the Utah Domestic Violence Council. "The deaths may be down, but domestic violence in general probably is not down that same percentage."

Officials say domestic-violence-related deaths include homicides, murder-suicides and any other death related to domestic violence.
