IRON COUNTY — A fire started just southwest of Parowan, near Summit in Iron County, on Sunday night. It was estimated at 15 acres and human-caused, according to Utah Fire Info. Structures were threatened, and police said to avoid the area. According to the Iron County Sheriff Volunteer Posse Facebook, "Units from throughout the county are working a brush fire off of Old Hwy 91, north of Summit." The police were still investigating the cause of the fire. According to Iron County Public Information Officer, Cassie Meredith, fire retardant and water were dropped on the fire, and approximately 50 people were evacuated. Evacuees included 5th wheels, trailers and a dozen full-time residents. Evacuations happened at the Red Canyon subdivision, according to the Iron County Sheriff's Office. Evacuations were lifted Sunday night with 97% containment of the perimeter, according to Utah Fire Info.
