Council puts several road projects on hold

LAYTON, Utah (AP) -- The Wasatch Front Regional Council has put several road projects on hold due to the economic downturn.

The council sent a letter to city officials and sponsors of future road projects saying no new items will be added to the Transportation Improvement Program for the 2010-15 cycle.

The council is responsible for the distribution of federal transportation funding to the improvement program.

It got 31 letters from city officials for requested road projects, but the council says those will be put on hold.

The projects will likely be re-evaluated in August.

Last month, the Utah Department of Transportation put about $3.5 billion worth of road projects not yet under contract on hold because of decreasing state sales tax revenues.
