Corroon says ‘no' to Sandy's request for soccer stadium funding

Mary Richards reportingEven though the soccer stadium is set to open this fall, Sandy City is still looking for ways to fund it.

Sandy has been trying to come up with $10 million for the stadium through the help of different taxing entities. But Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon says the county is done forking over tax money. "It wasn't worth risking the taxpayers' dollars to help subsidize the soccer stadium for Real," he said.

Mayor Corroon sent Sandy a letter saying he's not going to contribute to the community development agency.

The Jordan School District doesn't want to give any property tax either, so Sandy officials are noodling new ideas for more public funding for the stadium.
