SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A measure that would remove the statute of limitations on rape has passed a House committee.
House Bill 189 was approved unanimously with a 9-to-0 vote. The bill ---- sponsored by Representative Carl Wimmer --- would eliminate the statute of limitations for all first-degree felony sex offenses. Which includes crimes such as rape --- rape of a child --- forcible sodomy and aggravated sexual assault.
Right now --- there's virtually no statute of limitations for child victims. However, adult victims have four years to report the crime and another four years to file charges.
The measure will now go to the full House for consideration.
