Chaffetz has more money to spend than challenger in 3rd District race

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Jason Chaffetz, the 3rd Congressional District's Republican nominee, has $18,000 in cash to spend on the general election, while his Democratic challenger is in debt.

Federal Election Commission reports show Democratic nominee Bennion Spencer has about $2,700 on hand, but he's also loaned himself about $4,500.

As the Republican nominee in one of the nation's most conservative districts, Chaffetz isn't expected to face a serious challenge from Spencer. After Chaffetz defeated Rep. Chris Cannon in a June primary, donations from political action committees began pouring in.
