PROVIDENCE, Cache County — A 23-year-old man who barricaded himself in his home and is threatening suicide has prompted evacuations and a SWAT team standoff.
The man first contacted family members about his thoughts of harming himself and they called police just before 1 p.m., Cache County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Brad Slater said. The man is alone in the home near 100 East and Center Street, though he lives there with his parents.
"He has threatened to commit suicide or take actions that would force others to take action," Slater said. "We've isolated the area and contained it."
Officers are also evacuating homes immediately adjacent to the one the man lives in. Slater said they know the man has weapons and that neighbors and family members on the phone have heard shots fired.
Slater said law enforcement officers, including a SWAT team are at the scene and are attempting to negotiate with the man.
More information will be provided as it becomes available.
