BYU rolls out emergency alert system

Brigham Young University is rolling out a new emergency notification system to try to reach as many students as possible if a crisis strikes.

Students are being told to go to a Web site and watch a video showing them what to do, how to react and how to register to receive campus emergency alerts.

School spokeswoman Carrie Jenkins says all the IP telephones on campus have a speaker on them and will turn into an emergency intercom system to give alerts and directions if needed.

Another focus of the video is to tell students, if they ever get an alert to first heed the warnings and quickly spread the word.
