Accident sends 8 to the hospital

(KSL News) A bizarre accident in Salt Lake City tonight sent eight people to the hospital.

Witnesses tell police the SUV was driving north on second east and ran right through the red light at 600 South 210 East. The SUV broadsided a car and pushed it off the street. At the same time, the SUV sheared a power pole, which landed on top of a parked car.

All eight people in the SUV, including several children, were taken to hospitals.

Lt. Rich Brady, with the Salt Lake City Police Dept., said, "We're fortunate that they were all conscious and that they were breathing. And yeah, it could have been a lot worse."

No one was inside the parked car when the pole crashed down on top of it.

Police say the driver of the SUV will most likely face charges.
