PAYSON — A 2-year-old boy died after being hit in the driveway of a home in the area of 400 S. 400 East on July 4, according to Payson police.
The child was hit when a family member was moving a vehicle in the driveway of the home while preparing to do fireworks, Payson Police Sgt. Noemi Sandoval said in a press release. The driver did not see the boy in front of the vehicle while moving it and hit him.
At about 6 p.m., Payson police and emergency crews responded to the home and attempted life-saving measures on the child. Despite their efforts, 2-year-old Levi Martinez died of his injuries.
The driver and other people present were cooperative with the investigation, Sandoval said. A toxicology test was administered to the driver, but there is no indication the incident was anything but a tragic accident, she added.
A GoFundMe* page has been established for the family.
