Highway patrol says fiery crash near Vegas killed driver

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada Highway Patrol investigators have determined that 26-year-old New Jersey man killed in a fiery crash in the desert outside Las Vegas died of injuries from the wreck.

The finding made public Tuesday came more than a month after the late Dec. 19 crash involving the driver, Edwin Gichuki of Linden, New Jersey.

The NHP said Gichuki was burned in the wreckage a BMW 528i sedan off State Route 160 about 30 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip.

He was flown by medical helicopter to University Medical Center in Las Vegas, where he died the following morning.

Findings in the case were delayed pending results of the crash investigation.
