Wildfire south of Bismarck contained; campus back to normal

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Officials have lifted home evacuation orders for an area south of Bismarck affected by a wildfire this week, and classes are resuming at the University of Mary.

The blaze began Monday and reignited Tuesday. It was contained Tuesday night, but not before some homes and the campus were evacuated as a precaution. Classes were scheduled again Wednesday.

Burleigh County officials say the probable cause of Monday's fire, which burned a couple of square miles, was a small, abandoned campfire. No injuries or property damage were reported.

Other grass fires have popped up around the state as dry, windy conditions continue.

A fire in McKenzie County on Tuesday burned about 3,000 acres near the Tobacco Gardens resort on Lake Sakakawea. Property damage was limited to two abandoned mobile homes.
