OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education chancellor says a plan to increase the number of career credentials and college degrees can't continue without additional funding.
The Oklahoman (http://bit.ly/1CdWfGU ) reports the group requested an additional $90 million to pay for more courses, faculty and counselors to support Oklahoma's Complete College America goals. State officials say that those funds will not be available this year because of a state budget shortfall.
Oklahoma launched the Complete College America initiative in 2011 to increase the number of career credentials and college degrees conferred by 1,700 each year for 12 years. The state has surpassed its goals with more than 2,000 degrees and certificates conferred in year one and more than 3,000 degrees and certificates in year two. Year three results will not be available until this fall.
