SALT LAKE CITY -- There's new information on a KSL 5 News investigation into a legal substance that mimics the effects of marijuana, known as "Spice."
As a result of our story, the Unified Police Department decided to get some Spice analyzed.
The Utah State Crime Lab test identified the compound called JWH018 as the chemical in the herb mixture that causes the marijuana-like effect.
Manufacturers of Spice often list the damiana leaf as the only ingredient in spice. UPD tests results show no potency from that herb.
Essentially, the mixture is being spiked with this extra chemical.
