DAVIS COUNTY -- A snowmobiler swept up in an avalanche on a hard-to-reach Utah mountain slope has been dug out and flown to the hospital.
Lt. Brad Wilcox of the Davis County sheriff's office says authorities were notified Friday afternoon about the avalanche near Grandview Peak, a remote area about seven miles southeast of Bountiful.
Chopper 5 saw the rescue, as the snowmobiler was hoisted into a medical helicopter. The video also shows his snowmobile being dug out of the snow.
A helicopter took the man to University Hospital. He is listed in extremely critical condition.
Earlier Friday, the Utah Avalanche Center warned of dangerous conditions in much of the state's mountain backcountry. The group says large avalanches have been snapping trees and have been triggered with just a light disturbance.
Two Utah skiers died earlier this week in separate avalanches.
