SYRACUSE, Utah (AP) -- A former mayor of Layton will take the state Senate seat left vacant after the resignation of Sheldon Killpack.
Davis County Republican delegates on Saturday chose Jerry Stevenson to represent Senate District 21 when the Legislature convenes on Monday.
Stevenson, a business owner, was Layton's mayor from 1994 to 2006.
Killpack, who was also the state Senate majority leader, resigned Jan. 16, a day after he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
