SYRACUSE -- Republicans in Davis County met Saturday to fill the seat left vacant by former Senate Majority Leader Sheldon Killpack.
Five candidates spoke at a special convention at the Syracuse Arts Academy at 2893 W. 1700 South.
Those candidates included Layton resident Erik Bornemeier; former Layton Mayor Jerry Stevenson; business owner Jory R. Francis; Rep. Paul Ray, R-Clinton and Rep. Curt Oda, R-Clearfield.
The Republicans then held an election to see who will fill Killpack's Senate seat.
"We had to pull it together quickly because we didn't want his constituents to be without representation before the Legislature started," said Davis Republican Chairwoman Shirley Bouwhuis.
Republicans expect to have someone sworn in by the time the Legislature convenes Monday morning.
Killpack resigned following a DUI arrest on Jan. 15.
