SALT LAKE CITY -- An 86-year-old woman who was severely attacked early Friday made encouraging progress Saturday. Meanwhile, police are still searching for her attacker.

The Unified Police Department said doctors were able to remove the woman's breathing tube and she is now in critical but stable condition. She is expected to make a full recovery.

Her alleged attacker, Arthel Martin, is still on the run. Police said Martin moved into one of the woman's rental units a couple of weeks ago.

Around 6:00 Friday morning, police said he went into her home, strangled her and possibly assaulted her sexually.

Martin is believed to be driving a dark green 1995 Hyundai Sonata with license plate number Z216MN.

The victim's family said an account has been set up for her at Zions Bank.
