SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A measure that would increase the speed limit by 5 miles-per-hour on Utah highways was passed by the Senate.
The bill passed yesterday with a 19-to-9 vote. Under Senate Bill 17 --- drivers can also be ticketed for careless driving. That is defined in the measure as being distracted by activities NOT related to operating the vehicle.
The bill's sponsor also say the measure allows police officers to use an unmarked vehicle during traffic enforcement.
The bill now goes to the full House for debate.
