SALT LAKE CITY -- A prison inmate pleaded guilty in Colorado Thursday afternoon to killing four people; two of them here in Utah. He's a career criminal and serial killer, and some investigators believe the body count may be even higher.
There were tears and sobs in a courtroom jammed with the relatives of victims, as justice finally arrived for Scott Lee Kimball. Sitting quietly in a red jumpsuit, he watched as pictures of his victims were shown to the court.
Bob Marcum's daughter Jennifer is still missing.
"Jennifer was a beautiful young lady, full of dreams and laughter," Marcum said. " She was a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a mother. At 25 years of age, she was just beginning to fulfill her dreams."
Kimball admits killing Jennifer. He told authorities he buried her in Utah's Book Cliffs area, but he was unable, or unwilling, to lead authorities to her body.
He did, however, lead them to another body in that area. He admitted shooting LeAnn Emry in that same area north of Moab.
Unlike many serial killers, Kimball was acquainted with his victims and even had close relationships with them. One was his uncle; one the daughter of a woman he later married. LeAnn Emry and Jennifer Marcum were girlfriends of Kimball's former cellmates.
Kimball is already serving 48 years for theft and for being a habitual criminal. As part of the plea agreement, the judge sentenced him to 70 years for the murders.
"Scott Kimball has destroyed our lives. Ourlives will never be the same," Marcum said. "Our hope is that he has a long life in prison so that he can think about what he has accomplished in his life and maybe someday reveal how many other families he has also hurt."
Marcum's comment was apparently a reference to what many people believe: that Kimball committed other murders that have never come to light.
Jennifer Marcum's sister also spoke in court and demanded Kimball reveal the location of her body so she can get a proper Christian burial.
