(KSL News) -- Despite the cold, some homeowners in West Valley had plenty of heat this morning.
Firefighters arrived to find flames coming from the upper floor of the home.
The upstairs is a total loss and the main floor was damaged by smoke.
A family was inside when it started. They all got out ok, but one woman had to be taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
No word on the cause.
A little bit further south a fire started in the basement of a home. Fire crews say the family was trying to light the fireplace for the first time this season.
No one was hurt.
Firefighters recommend you have a professional check your chimney before using your fireplace for the first time, and watch those Christmas candles and lights.
