SOUTH SALT LAKE -- A South Salt Lake man accused of severely beating his girlfriend's 2-year-old son could spend up to 60 years in prison.

Justin Hanson, 20, faces four counts of felony child abuse. Charging documents say Hanson told police he was the "disciplinarian" and that he didn't mean to hurt the boy on purpose.

Hanson's girlfriend and her son moved in with him two weeks ago. Charging documents show Hanson would abuse the boy when his mother left the house.

Doctors say it was so bad, the boy now has traumatic injuries to his gallbladder, liver, pancreas and intestines.
