SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Utah Department of Workforce Services says the unemployment rate in the state rose to 5.7 percent in June, up from 5.4 percent in May.

About 78,100 Utahns were considered unemployed last month, compared to 46,000 a year earlier. Last June, the unemployment rate was 3.3 percent.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says Utah has lost 46,100 jobs over the past year.

Nationwide, the unemployment rate rose to 9.5 percent in June, up from 9.4 percent in May.
