Ashley Hayes Reporting Today being Thanksgiving, most people are enjoying the day off. even sleeping in, and dreaming of the big meal to come.
But that doesn't mean you have to stay inside near the kitchen all day. We have a look at some of the activities going on for this Turkey Day.
If you're looking to burn calories, or work up an appetite before carving the turkey this evening, I've got a couple of run-walks to tell you about.
The Thanksgiving Day 5K Run/Walk begins at 9:00 am at the Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center. There will be ribbons, trophies, and all participants will receive long sleeve t-shirts.
If you live a little farther north, Ogden Regional Medical Center is hosting the Thanksgiving Day Charity Run/Walk. This one is a little longer workout... it's 5 miles. Organizers ask runners and walkers to bring nonperishable food or donations with them to the event. Proceeds go to our local shelters.
And speaking of the homeless, the Salvation Army is looking for volunteers to help serve up Thanksgiving dinner. They'll serve the meal at 11:30, and are asking those who want to help to come an hour earlier at 10:30 am. That is at the Salvation Army downtown at 252 S. 500 East.
If you have little ones, maybe they're just driving the cook crazy. There's an event to get them out of the house, too. Hogle Zoo is hosting "Feast with the Beast" from 9:00 am till noon. Several animals will be eating turkey dinners. If you want to see some real chowing down, this is your event.
And it wouldn't be Thanksgiving if I didn't give some mention to holiday shopping. When the clock strikes midnight tonight at Fashion Place Mall the doors will open and let the shopping begin!
Many other stores will open later, with "late" being 5:00 am. All of them promise big discounts.
We will be out for the shopping craze bright and early at 5:00 am tomorrow.
