SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- City officials and the National Park Service say the best use of seven miles of abandoned railroad line may be to transform it into a walking and biking trail.
Rails and ties were removed this spring along the corridor once used by Union Pacific.
The city and the park service are now seeking public input on the future of the old rail line. Park service officials say an early idea is to turn it into a trail that would link to the Jordan River Parkway. Similar projects have been done around the country.
A meeting to discuss the project is scheduled for June 11 at 6 p.m. at the Pioneer Precinct building in Salt Lake City.
