(KSL News) It wasn't the voting machines or the cards that caused Utah County voters so much headache on election day, but a glitch in the database shortcut.

The shortcut that caused the problem used a backup database that appeared to be identical to the actual database.

The original database had been locked down when early voting began and couldn't be used to program the voter card encoders.

The backup system was slightly different and caused the machines to encode the cards with the wrong precinct.

The director of the Utah County Information Systems Department says the backup system will not be used in the next election.
