SARDINE CANYON -- An Orem man died in a car crash in Sardine Canyon Saturday morning.
The Utah Highway Patrol says it happened around 10 a.m. on State Road 89/91, approximately two miles north of Wellsville.
Troopers say the driver of a white Mazda Protégé, identified as 38-year-old Rogelio Gallegos of Orem, was speeding.

The car started drifting toward the center cement barrier wall when the driver then swerved back across the road. The car went off the shoulder and down the embankment where it rolled several times. The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected. The car came to rest at the bottom of the embankment in a small stream.
UHP says alcohol is a factor in the crash.
UHP also says it learned that witnesses had observed the car being driven recklessly several miles prior to the crash but none called 911. Troopers urge the public to report reckless drivers.
