TOOELE COUNTY -- A major manufacturer is going to be building a new distribution center in Tooele County and bringing more than 100 new jobs.
A company that's been in business since 1814 and you've probably never heard of it: Reckitt Benckiser. They manufacture products like French's Mustard, Lysol, Spray ‘N Wash, Woolite, and Old English Polish, just the name a few.
Site work is already underway for the company's 600,000-square-foot Logistics and Custom Manufacturing Center. It's a $35 million investment.
Brad Newman, director of North American Supply Services for Beckitt Benckiser, said, "Distribution from this area will improve our financial results and also enhance service for the growing concentration of customers in the Pacific Northwest and western Canada."
Reckitt Benckiser is a global company with 23,000 employees in 80 countries. And now it expands into Utah and Tooele County couldn't be more thrilled. Tooele County Commissioner Jerry Hurst said, "And I look at this as an anchor project. We get this one facility in, and it's going to bring others. And it's just going to be a great thing for Tooele County and the state of Utah."
The new Logistics Center is the first building in the Miller Motorsports Business Park--900 acres of land adjacent to the Miller Race Track.
Reckitt Benckiser joins several other major companies which recently have chosen Utah to expand operations; a sign of continued confidence in our economic climate. Jason Perry, executive director of the Governor's Office of Economic Development, said, "I will tell you I've been visiting with my counterparts in other parts of the United States. They are not having groundbreakings right now. They're closing shop. We are opening shop!"
They're not wasting any time on this project. Construction is underway now, and the facility should be open and operating by the first quarter of next year.
