SALT LAKE CITY -- Salt Lake City's finest were honored for their service to the community on Monday.

Detective Don Ouimette was awarded the Police Officer of the Year award. He became the department's sole Homeland Security detective in 2008 and has managed hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants for the department.

"Each and every day officers go out and do extraordinary things, and this is a wonderful opportunity to stand up and say thank you for all the good work they do," said Salt Lake City Police Chief Chris Burbank.

The department's public relations sector was also honored as the unit of the year, in part for its Web site that recently helped catch one of the department's most wanted suspects.
