OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- An office manager is accused of embezzling more than $100,000 from a law firm.
Maureen McCombs, 40, of Layton will be arraigned Nov. 15 in 2nd District Court on theft and forgery charges. "We trusted her implicitly," said Bernie Allen, a partner at the firm Richards, Caine and Allen. "We thought she was one of our best friends, more than an employee. We thought we were all working together."
The money is believed to have been taken between March 2005 and January 2006, court documents said.
McCombs had worked for the firm for about seven years.
She is accused of listing checks as voided in the office computer when they had actually cleared at a bank, then keeping the money. She also is accused of forging the signatures of several lawyers at the firm.
