DRAPER, Utah (AP) -- Arnold Christensen, who served as Utah Senate president for 10 years, has died.

Christensen died on Wednesday from complications related to diabetes. He was 72.

Christensen served in the Utah Senate for 17 years and was president from 1985 through 1994, when he left the Legislature to serve as a mission president for the Mormon church.

Former Senate President Miles "Cap" Ferry says Christensen was a loyal and honest friend with a calm and steady personality.

Christensen is survived by his wife, Ann, and four children.
