OGDEN — A Pleasant View man employed as a custodian for the Weber School District was charged Thursday with sexually abusing a teenage girl.

Nolin Jeffery Maurer, 64, faces seven charges, including individual counts of rape, forcible sodomy and object rape, all first-degree felonies. He is also charged in 2nd District Court with forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony, and three counts of distribution of material harmful to a minor, a third-degree felony.

Maurer has worked for about five years as a school custodian, including at Snowcrest Junior High in Eden, but school officials say they think the sexual misconduct occurred outside of school. Charging documents refer to activity at a home and in Pleasant View and say the incidents occurred in February and March.

"We are not aware of any connection to Snowcrest Junior High School or other schools in our district," the Weber School District said in a statement. School officials said they were working through "the administrative process regarding his employment status."

District officials learned Maurer had been arrested on Tuesday. He's been ordered to be held without bail and remained in the Weber County Jail on Friday.

The investigation started on March 31 after the girl's father discovered journal entries "detailing sexual acts with an adult identified as 'Nolin' and found an unauthorized phone in the juvenile's possession," according to charging documents. Layton police conducted the investigation.

"The juvenile's journal described incidents of rape, sexual abuse, alcohol consumption and the receipt of gifts in exchange for sexual favors," the charges allege. On the phone, investigators found "communications between the juvenile and Nolin Maurer, including requests for and exchanges of explicit images and videos and discussions of gifts and sex toys."

The charges add, "A forensic interview at the Children's Justice Center yielded additional details regarding the context and circumstances of the abuse, Maurer's manipulative behaviors and the emotional impact on the juvenile."

Court documents don't indicate the alleged victim's age, only that she was 14 or older.
