OREM — Utah Valley University has been named one of the most affordable online universities in the country for the second year in a row, according to a new ranking from OnlineU.

The annual list evaluates schools that offer bachelor's programs and evaluates schools based on tuition, access and enrollment among online undergraduate students.

"Being recognized on OnlineU's affordability list reflects UVU's long-standing commitment to access and student-centered design," said Bonnie Rodriguez Mortensen, senior director of online and graduate studies. "Our goal is to ensure that students can pursue a high-quality education in ways that fit their lives, without affordability becoming a barrier."

The recognition comes as online learning continues to grow at UVU. From fall 2024 to fall 2025, online-only student enrollment increased by more than 6%. During the same period, student headcount increased by more than 10%, and online-only, full-time equivalent rose by nearly 9%.

While online learning may have started as an option for many students, Mortensen said student needs are changing.

"These trends signal a meaningful shift in how students are choosing to access their education," Mortensen said. "Affordability paired with flexibility is no longer optional for many learners. It is central to how they evaluate institutions, and UVU has been intentional about designing online pathways that respond to those realities."

UVU officials said the recognition reinforces their ongoing strategies in regards to online education, including scheduling, online student support, advising and course delivery.

Other Utah schools on the list include Southern Utah University and Weber State in the top 10, as well as Utah State, ranked No. 18.
