SALT LAKE CITY — A Utah woman has been sentenced to two years of probation after pleading guilty in a road rage case to assaulting someone in Millcreek who she thought had cut her off.
Bridget Renee Hood, 37, pleaded guilty Jan. 16 to aggravated assault, a class A misdemeanor, and was sentenced in the same hearing to one year in jail. Third District Judge James Blanch suspended that jail sentence, giving her credit for the six days she had already served and ordering probation.
A plea deal reduced the assault charge from a third-degree felony, and a second charge of criminal mischief, a class A misdemeanor, was dismissed.
A man told police he was on his way to work when he noticed another driver was following him and waving at him to pull over. After he did, Hood got out of the car and confronted him with a pocket knife in her hand, yelling that he had cut her off, according to charging documents.
She used the knife to attempt to puncture one of the man's tires and stabbed the car's rear compartment, the charges state. Police say her 7-year-old son was in the car.
As part of her probation terms, Hood was ordered to complete an anger management course and a mental health evaluation in addition to not using drugs and submitting to random drug tests.
