SANDY — Authorities have identified the man shot near a park Monday night, but haven't released many more details.
In a statement Tuesday, Sandy police identified the man, who later died, as Josh Pectol, 39. Officers were dispatched to a report of a robbery in the vicinity of the park at Main Street and 60 East around 8:30 p.m., which escalated into the shooting of the man. "The adult male was transported to a local hospital where, despite lifesaving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries," reads Tuesday's statement.
No arrests have been made, but the investigation into the matter continues. "The information gathered so far leads us to believe that there is no current threat to the public," says the Sandy Police Department statement.
Witnesses to the shooting are cooperating with authorities, but police also seek assistance from the public.
