LAKE POWELL — Human remains located in a submerged truck found in Lake Powell have been identified as a missing Arizona man.

During Labor Day weekend, individuals recreating at Lone Rock Beach in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area spotted what appeared to be a submerged vehicle, Kane County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

On Tuesday, the National Park Service used the vehicle's identification number to search records and determined it belonged to Dennis Keith Dillinger, 54, who has an open missing person case in Page, Arizona. Officials said the last known sighting of Dillinger was at a Family Dollar Store in Kanab on Dec. 18, 2023.

On Wednesday, the vehicle was extracted from the water. Human remains located in the vehicle were taken to the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office. The incident is being investigated to determine how Dillinger ended up in the water.
