BLANDING — Deputies seized $1.2 million worth of suspected fentanyl pills and heroin early Saturday during a traffic stop in Blanding.

Members of the San Juan County Major Crimes and Drug Task Force unit pulled over a vehicle for a registration violation, assisted by K-9 Nyx and her handler. The police dog alerted to the odor of narcotics during a "free air sniff" of the vehicle, according to a post on the San Juan County Sheriff's Office.

About 88 pounds of fentanyl pills — about 240,000 — were seized in addition to 5 kilograms of suspected heroin, the sheriff's office said, adding that the street value of those substances is estimated at $1.2 million.

The driver of the vehicle was booked into the San Juan County Jail. No other information was released.
