CEDAR CITY — An Iron County sheriff's deputy accused of rape last year has now been placed on administrative leave following an internal investigation that uncovered several policy violations.
The disciplinary measure came months after a southern Utah woman filed a criminal complaint accusing the deputy of sexually assaulting her in her home in August 2024.
"This measure is strictly about the policy violations we found during the internal investigation," Iron County Sheriff Ken Carpenter said.
The woman, identified in a previous story by St. George News and the Utah Investigative Journalism Project as "Jane" to protect her privacy, initially reported the incident to the Cedar City Police Department.
Due to a conflict of interest, Cedar City police referred the case to the Washington City Police Department for investigation. It was later screened by the Washington County Attorney's Office.
