PARAGONAH, Iron County — One child was critically injured and another was seriously hurt after both were ejected in an off-road vehicle crash on a dirt road in the mountains east of Paragonah on Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Iron County Sheriff's Cpl. Charles Day said the incident occurred about 2 p.m. on Little Creek Road and involved a red Honda side-by-side with four juvenile occupants.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that the group had been operating a Honda side-by-side ATV and were traveling at an unsafe speed while negotiating a corner," Day said in a news release issued later Monday afternoon. "None of the occupants were wearing helmets at the time of the crash."

The vehicle rolled as it made the turn, ejecting the two children who were in the back seat, the statement said.
