WEST VALLEY CITY — A Murray man was charged Tuesday with stabbing a woman who has a protective order against him 20 times.

Ender Vicente Pacheco Hernandez, 32, is charged in 3rd District Court with attempted murder, a first-degree felony; three counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child, aggravated assault and failing to stop for police, third-degree felonies; violating a protective order, a class A misdemeanor; and causing property damage, a class B misdemeanor.

On June 13, Hernandez approached the vehicle occupied by a woman with whom he had children, which was parked in an apartment complex near 2300 West and 3600 South. The woman would later tell police that Hernandez had been threatening her that day, "and demanded that she drop charges that were already pending against him prior to this incident," according to charging documents.

The woman locked her doors and called 911 as Hernandez approached. He then "slashed the tires of (the woman's) vehicle and then broke the rear driver side window. Hernandez climbed through the window into the back seat and began assaulting (her)," according to the charges. The woman began to run and "Hernandez caught up with her and began stabbing (her) in the neck, shoulders and back."

Another man tried to get between Hernandez and the woman when Hernandez tackled the woman, "and continued to stab her while stating, 'Die, die, die,'" charging documents allege.

"Officers responded to the hospital and met with (the woman) who suffered 20 stab wounds," the court documents say.

The woman's three children, all under the age of 10, were also in the vehicle that Hernandez allegedly broke into.

West Valley police attempted to stop Hernandez as he sped away between 50 mph and 80 mph, according to the charges. He "jumped the median" and drove the wrong way on Redwood Road before police terminated their pursuit due to safety concerns.

Police were able to ping Hernandez's phone after he drove away, tracked him down and arrested him. While being taken into custody, Hernandez stated, "This started because she was unfaithful" and "I did do it and I'm guilty," the charges state.
