ST. GEORGE — A woman who pleaded guilty to shooting her boyfriend to death in Iron County nearly two years ago was sentenced to prison on Tuesday.

Jessica Lynn Sabo, 44, was sentenced in Cedar City's 5th District Court by Judge Meb Anderson, who heard arguments from both sides before imposing a sentence on each of three felony charges.

As previously reported, Sabo was arrested in connection with the July 2, 2023, death of 48-year-old Shawn Laroy Young in a remote area of western Iron County, near the Nevada border.

Although she was originally charged with murder, Sabo entered into a plea agreement on April 8, wherein she pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of manslaughter, a second-degree felony. She also pleaded guilty to one count of illegal discharge of a firearm, a first-degree felony, and one count of use of a firearm by a restricted person, a third-degree felony.
