SYRACUSE — Police are asking for the public's help in locating a suspect wanted in connection with a violent assault that left a 26-year-old woman hospitalized with critical injuries.

The attack, which occurred Tuesday night, resulted in severe head and neck trauma for the victim.

Neighbors describe hearing chilling screams, an experience they say they will never forget.

Syracuse police were called to a residence near 2700 West and 3300 South at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Upon arrival, officers discovered a woman who was severely injured.

Witnesses say moments before police arrived, a man fled the home and jumped into a waiting truck that sped away. Syracuse police later identified the alleged suspect as 34-year-old Daniel Herson Vazquez.

Police initially searched for a black GMC truck with a landscaping logo. While the vehicle has since been found abandoned on the side of a road, Vazquez remains at large. Authorities are also seeking information about the truck's driver, whose identity remains unknown.

Vazquez has an active warrant for a prior aggravated assault. Officials urge the public: If you see him, do not approach — call police immediately.
