CEDAR CITY — Cedar City residents with vehicles for sale on public roadways may need to find another place to park.

The Cedar City Council approved a new ordinance prohibiting people from parking their vehicles on public streets if their primary purpose is selling. The change was proposed on April 16 and approved unanimously on May 7 after several weeks of discussion.

However, there are two exceptions. A driver can park the vehicle on a public street if doing so is "incidental to actual operation and immediate use of the vehicle by the owner." And an automobile or trailer can be parked on public roads directly in front of a residence the seller owns or is visiting temporarily if the speed limit is 25 mph or less, according to a press release issued by the city.

Under Utah state law, individuals can park on public roadways for 72 hours or less before the vehicle must be moved, the release states.
