HARRISVILLE, Weber County — An intense blaze Wednesday night destroyed a mechanics shop in Harrisville, though firefighters were able to prevent the fire from expanding to other nearby structures.

"It'll be a total loss," Ryan Barker, deputy chief and fire marshal for North View Fire District, said Thursday, estimating the value of the structure at $150,000. The contents inside, which included a semitractor-trailer, were also destroyed.

The fire was called in around 9:10 p.m. Wednesday and when firefighters arrived, the structure at 2458 N. U.S. 89 was fully engulfed, with flames visible from miles around because they were so high. The impacted building sits on the interior of the parcel, located in an industrial and commercial area, and a larger adjacent structure, more closely abutting U.S. 89, was not damaged.

Given the intensity of the fire, firefighters battled the blaze defensively, getting it under control in around an hour. The cause is under investigation.
