WEST JORDAN — A 19-year-old man was shot and killed in West Jordan over the weekend.

On Tuesday, West Jordan police confirmed that Hugo Lucero Perez was shot in the chest and killed.

The investigation began as a report of a disturbance outside a house near 7900 South and 6400 West around 3:45 a.m. Sunday. Responding officers arrived to find Perez had been shot, West Jordan Police Sgt. Andrew Hercules said. He was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries.

Hercules says the shooting may have happened following a house party. The investigation remained ongoing as of Tuesday and no arrests had been made.

A GoFundMe* campaign was started in memory of Perez and to help cover funeral costs.

"He was a loving and caring person, always with a warm smile and a generous heart. Hugo touched the lives of everyone who knew him, and his absence leaves a great void in our hearts. As we navigate this difficult time, we are asking for your support to help cover the funeral expenses. Your contributions will allow us to give Hugo Lucero Perez the tribute he deserves, honor his memory, and say our goodbyes with peace of mind," the fundraising campaign stated.

Anyone who may have information about the incident is asked to contact West Jordan police at 801-840-4000.
