PAROWAN — A driver was found dead from a gunshot wound in a crashed car after state troopers say he led them on a chase in southern Utah Friday afternoon.
At about 2 p.m., Utah Highway Patrol spokeswoman Takesha Durrant says troopers located a reckless driver in Washington County and attempted a traffic stop on the driver.
The driver fled from law enforcement on northbound I-15. Troopers spiked the vehicle about 12 miles south of Parowan, but the driver continued on the freeway before drifting off the road about 10 miles later, where the car crashed through a fence and came to rest in a field, Durrant said.
Troopers located the driver dead at the scene of the crash from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, she said. The driver's identity was not released Friday.
The incident is under investigation, Durrant said.
